FAQ – Food Products and Expiration Dates
Q1: What is the difference between Use-by (DLC) and Best-before (DLUO/DDM)?
– Use-by (DLC): “Use by…” → applies to fresh/perishable products (meat, fish, raw milk). After this date, the product may pose a health risk and must not be consumed.
– Best-before (DLUO/DDM): “Best before…” → applies to dry or stable products (tea, coffee, pasta, canned goods, biscuits). After this date, the product is still safe to consume, but taste or texture may be slightly reduced.
Q2: Is it dangerous to consume a product after the Best-before date?
– No. As long as the packaging is intact (not swollen, rusty, or opened), there is no health risk. Only the flavor quality may be slightly reduced.
Q3: Why do I sometimes receive products past their Best-before date?
– Because these products remain perfectly safe and compliant. Regulations allow their sale after the Best-before date, provided the packaging is intact.
Q4: Which products are concerned by Best-before dates?
– All dry or stable products: tea, coffee, biscuits, pasta, rice, canned goods, bottled drinks, chocolate, etc.
Q5: Can I request a refund if the Best-before date has passed?
– No. The Best-before date (DLUO/DDM) is not an expiry date: dry or stable products remain safe to consume after this date as long as the packaging is intact.
👉 A refund is only possible if the product shows a real defect (damaged packaging, corrosion, leakage, or a swollen can).
– In such cases, we will of course provide a replacement or refund.
